The world-class International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade – known as the Floriade Expo – is returning to the Netherlands for 2022. The expo is the world’s largest and most anticipated green exhibition and only takes place once every ten years.
The expo will begin in mid-April and run through until early October. Guests on selected Emerald Cruises river cruising itineraries calling into Amsterdam will have the chance to visit this spectacle of horticulture. There is also the opportunity for guests to extend their trip with a two-night stay in this city of canals and bridges.
What is the Floriade Expo?
Taking place only once a decade, the Floriade Expo is the world’s foremost showcase of horticulture, bringing together arts and culture exhibits from across the globe. The gates to this year’s expo will open in the spring and close in the early autumn, making the most of the Netherlands’ greenest months.
The theme for Floriade 2022 is ‘green solutions to living’. The focus of this theme will be a celebration of green and sustainable technologies, with the expo being heralded as a ‘living laboratory’. The expo takes place in the Dutch town of Almere, just outside of Amsterdam. Floriade Expo 2022 attractions
The Floriade Expo 2022 will feature exhibits hailing from countries across the world. Revellers will have the chance to visit pavilions showcasing the likes of waterlily gardens from Thailand, indigenous plants from Greece and even steel architecture from Luxembourg.
In addition to the world showcase, there will of course be a plethora of national exhibits presenting the finest of Dutch horticulture. Visitors to the Floriade Expo will have the chance to encounter an alphabetical arrangement of trees and plants in the arboretum, amble through the expo’s large greenhouse and even be transported to the birthplace of Vincent van Gogh in the Treeport Zundert.
Visitors to the expo will be able to travel the grounds by foot or take a cable car between the northern and southern areas of the exhibition park. From 35 metres above ground, you’ll see the Bobbing Forest, which has been transported from Rotterdam to Almere especially for Floriade 2022. The forest consists of 20 Dutch elms floating in the park’s waters on individual recycled North Sea buoys. With an emphasis on CO2 reduction and green living, this installation is not to be missed!
